CONNECTICUT GIANTS FOOTBALL PRESS RELEASE
August 4, 2008
JETER’S THE MAN
Milford, CT- When you see his #38 running down the field on kickoff, you wouldn’t make the comparison. However, when he takes off his helmet you instantly say, “You look like Derek Jeter!”
In a battle with 40 other entries, Connecticut Giants safety James Galarneau was the Grand Prize Winner for
the Kiss 95.7 Celebrity Look-A-Like Contest held last month. A dead-ringer for the Yankee’s future Hall of Fame shortstop, Galarneau won two concert tickets to any concert at the Dodge Music Center in Hartford.
“People started making the comparison about seven years ago.” said Galarneau. “The further the Yankees went in the playoffs, the more I got it. It became a daily thing.” In his fourth season with the Giants, he is kindly referred to as “Jeter” by players, coaches, and fans alike. “I doubt the rookies even know my name is really James.”
Originally from Chicopee, MA, Galarneau is an avid golfer and plays hockey in the off-season to stay in shape. He is also an aspiring actor who traveled to Los Angeles last summer to appear in his first full-length film.
As a player, “Jeter” is a standout on special teams and a reliable cover man. “James represents what is good about Minor League football;” said General Manager Bernie Armstrong, “we need more guys like him around.”
Galarneau’s trophy case also boasts two Minor League Super Bowl rings.
