CONNECTICUT GIANTS FOOTBALL PRESS RELEASE
March 12, 2008 GIANTS JOIN THE SURGEWorcester, MassachusettsThe Continental Indoor Football League’s (CIFL) New England Surge raids the defensive backfield of the Connecticut Giants.
In addition to securing strong safety Sir Snowden, the Surge signed defensive back Jamar Rawles as their standout cover defender. Rawles was named 2007 EFA Defensive Player of the Year (Minor League Football) and was personally invited to the Surge’s open tryout in February.
This is the third time both Snowden and Rawles have been teamed up together. Not only did they come together with the Connecticut Giants in 2006 and 2007 to become back-to-back Super Bowl Champions, the two also joined forces in high school. Coached by Damien Lewis, Snowden and Rawles were standouts at Harding High School in Bridgeport, Connecticut. “We played both defensive back and wide receiver,” said Snowden. “We never left the field.” Known as a basketball powerhouse, the two brought excitement to the football field for four years.
After high school, the guys took different routes at the college level, but they shared the same goal. Snowden (Southern Connecticut State) and Rawles (Norwich University in Vermont) both knew that they wanted to get their education and play football. “We knew we had to use our athletic ability to go to school,” said Rawles. “We needed something to fall back on if playing football didn’t work out.”
Things are working out great for the duo. “Who would have ever thought that two kids from Harding High School would be playing professional football, and to be on the same team is amazing,” said Rich Snowden, Sir’s brother and Connecticut Giants quarterback.
The New England Surge season opens on March 28th in Flint, Michigan.
