GIANTS ENTER THE NAFL
Eden Prairie, MN - The Connecticut Giants have officially accepted the offer to become a member of the North American Football League (NAFL).
The NAFL is known as the largest Nationally recognized minor league football league in the country. The league boasts over 120 teams in two separate divisions of competition. The Giants will participate in NAFL1, the division for 3A teams. “We’re happy to have the Giants join us in the NAFL,” said League President Robert Licopoli.
The Giants have played in a host of leagues during their ten years of existence. The Giants started in the Garden State Football League where they spent three seasons earning two championship game berths and one victory in 2000 completing an undefeated season. The Giants then moved to the United Football League (UFL) where over a 5 year stretch, had an .890 winning percentage and went to two Super Bowls, winning 2006 Super Bowl XII against the Baltimore Warriors in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The UFL, strengthen by additional teams from the South, was renamed the Eastern Football Alliance (EFA) in 2007. In the leagues championship game, the Giants dominated the Southern Football League’s Champion Forest Park (GA) Vikings 41-0.
“We are extremely excited about the opportunity to play in the NAFL,” said head coach Tim Andrews. “We’ve matched up against teams from their league in the past so we know that we have to be ready each week.”
The NAFL season opener is July 12th. The Giants 2008 game schedule will be released in April.
