THE REMATCH September 1, 2008
Milford, CT - In just a few days the NAFL New England Division may be decided from the results of one game. On September 13th the Ocean State Vipers visit the Connecticut Giants at Jonathan Law Stadium in Milford, CT. The Giants suffered from their only loss to the hands of the Vipers 7-0 in Rhode Island. The defensive battle ended on a 40 yard TD reception by Patrick Addai with 30 seconds remaining in regulation.
“We didn’t have a lot go our way that night” said Head Coach Tim Andrews. Being inside the red zone 5 times and
committing four turnovers (2 inside the 5 yard line), the Giants definitely had plenty of opportunities to score.
After experiencing their first loss in 26 games, the Giants offense is currently firing on all cylinders. Managed by quarterback Rich Snowden, they have since averaged 32 points per game reaching 49 points twice. He’s been assisted by newcomer Kevin Taylor. One of the nation’s top sprinters out of SCSU, the 6’3” Taylor has collected 4 touchdowns over the last three games.
The Vipers defense has been just as impressive. Showing that their shutout of the Giants was not a fluke, the Vipers proceeded to allow zero points to their next four opponents. Defensive Coach Jay Ward has combined dominating size and quickness to develop one of the league’s top defensive lines.
“This is by far the most anticipated game of the year.” said Division Commissioner Eric Brown, “This will decide who represents the Division and have a home game in the playoffs.” The loser may still get an opportunity to qualify as a Wild Card team in the playoffs but will have to take on a high seed on the road.
